The First All Japan Salsa Championship~JAPAN CUP 2009~
The Japan Salsa Association is proud to announce their sponsorship of The First All Japan Salsa Championship: Japan Cup 2009. The winners of this championship will be eligible to participate and perform in overseas congresses. We are calling all salsa enthusiasts, throughout Japan; whether it’s that you’d like to see the fruits of your practice come to bear, or whether it’s that you’d simply like to cheer on a competing team or pair, you are welcome to join us in this celebration of Salsa.

①In addition to your fully completed application for registration in the Japan Salsa Association you must be a competitor of Japan Salsa Association,

submit a copy of the receipt issued upon bank transfer of the entry fee.

②After processing your application, we will submit to you materials regarding participation.
③On the day of the competition we will confirm your participation at reception and give you your competition number.
■Requirements
1)JSA registered Professional or Amateur male & female pairs, non-registered Professional or Amateur pairs (must have appropriate costumes).
2)JSA registered Professional or Amateur teams, non-registered Professional or Amateur teams (must have appropriate costumes).
3)Trial participation is open to the general public, regardless of experience (dance wear at the participant’s discretion)
*Foreign participants are welcome to join! (However, if a foreign participant should win the Japan Cup, he/she/they will not be entitled to represent Japan.
The representative function will be passed on in such a case.)
**Registered members of JSA who qualify for overseas congresses do not have to pay participation fees for those congresses, and will have their names recorded as Japan representatives in the festival programs.
Non-registered participants will have to pay the costs for participation in overseas congresses, should they qualify.

Note:Overseas competitors
Non member fees will be applied to overseas competitors.
Note that the registration for the JSA membership nor competitor in not required for overseas competitors.
■Evaluation method
【Pair Division】
Qualifying round for pairs: Multiple pairs will perform at the same time and be evaluated by a panel of judges.
This will be free style.
Final round for pairs: Selected pairs will perform their own song based on their choreography (3 minutes).
They will be evaluated by a panel of judges.
【Team Division】
Team competition: Teams will perform their own song based on their choreography (3 minutes).
They will be evaluated by a panel of judges.
【Trial Division】
Trial competition: Multiple pairs will perform at the same time and be evaluated by a panel of judges.
This will be free style.
Note: The panel of judges consists of officially approved judges. It may include professional dancers.
■Evaluation content
Judging Criteria
A preliminary round will be held based on free style.
Only 10 pairs will be able to advance to the finals regardless of numbers of participants.
At the finals, the choreography, timing, technique, expression, costume will be judged.
The maximum score that can be achieved is 10 points for pairs as well as teams.
If the scores of pairs/teams are a tie, the winner will be decided based on the preliminary round score.
If the score is still a tie, then the highest scorer of audience reaction will be the winner.
【Pair Division】
Qualifying round for pairs: Basic dance techniques will be evaluated using a simple check form.
Final round for pairs: Pairs will not only be evaluated based on their technical dance skills.
Artistic quality and other elements will be incorporated into the evaluation.
【Team Division】
Team competition: Basic dance techniques and overall team coordination.
【Trial Division】
Trial competition: Basic dance techniques will be evaluated using a simple check form.
Final round: Participants will not only be evaluated based on their technical dance skills.
Artistic quality and other elements will be incorporated into the evaluation.
Note: The panel of judges will be made up of five members.
For the trial competition, professional dancers may be included in the panel of judges.
■Panel of judges
As a basic rule, each competition will have a panel of five judges.
In regards to the Japan Cup 2009, the panel of judges for the pair and team categories will include one judge each from the JSA partnering countries. A judge from Japan will also be present as well as other respected individuals.
In regards to the trial category, the panel of judges will consist of 5 Japanese individuals.
